It has been nine months since Smash and his owner Tabitha Leslie figured in a tragic car accident. Sadly, Tabitha did not survive, but the brawny pit bull did. However, Smash must have been in shock and ran away in fear, so when the responders arrived, he was nowhere to be seen.
Tabitha’s family knew how much she loved Smash, so they immediately organized a search party. However, despite their efforts, the pup seemed to have simply vanished. Still, they frequently visited the area around the crash site to look for Smash. They are determined to bring home the lost dog to honor the memory of Tabitha.
Jennifer Burkart lived a couple of hours away from Tulare County in California, where the accident happened. The distance did not keep her from continuing the search for her sister’s beloved dog. She also did more than just physically look for Smash. She shared posts about the missing pup in local groups on Facebook until the word spread, and everyone became familiar with the pit bull’s predicament.
Interestingly, nine months since the accident happened, animal control found a pit bull fastened to another pup wearing a cowbell. The Animal Services of Tulare County scanned the dogs for microchips, and the pit bull was identified as Smash. Good thing the employees have known about Smash through the Facebook posts that they knew whom to contact since Tabitha’s numbers have already been deactivated.
Soon enough, Tabitha’s family was informed about Smash. They immediately traveled with haste to Tulare to collect the long lost dog. Jennifer shared the fantastic news to update everyone in the local Facebook groups and thank them and the Animal Services for their overwhelming support and help.
Nobody knows what happened to Smash since the accident until he was found, but Tabitha’s family is simply grateful that he is now safe. He seemed healthy and looked very happy in the photos shared by Jennifer during their emotional reunion. He was really lucky that they never gave up on him.
